Hope is Education has been awarded the Prime Minister’s Commendation for Civil Society Organizations at the 2025 Government Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Development Cooperation.
In addition, the “School-based Learning Community (SLC)” program—implemented for 10 years from 2015 to 2024 in Gulu and Omoro districts in Northern Uganda with the support of KOICA—was selected as one of the 15 Outstanding ODA Cases of 2025.
At this year’s ceremony, held on November 25 to commemorate the first official “International Development Cooperation Day,” four outstanding ODA cases were invited to present their work. It was a truly meaningful moment for Hope is Education to be the only civil society organization among presenters, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to all teachers in Uganda who have shown tremendous courage by opening their classrooms to their colleagues and building cooperative school-based learning communities together.
We are equally grateful to the District Education Offices in Gulu and Omoro for their steadfast collaboration, which enabled Hope is Education’s educational model to take root in Uganda.
We sincerely thank all past and present team members of both the Korea Headquarters and the Uganda Branch for their dedication.
To our long-term donors—who have supported Hope is Education consistently for 5 or even 10 years, despite our modest size and limited public visibility—we share this joy with each one of you.
We also express our gratitude to KCOC for discovering Hope is Education and helping us connect to KOICA programs, and to KOICA’s Civil Society Cooperation Office, KOICA Uganda Office, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uganda for their patience and support over the past decade as this new model of educational development cooperation continued to grow.
We hope this Prime Minister’s Commendation serves as meaningful encouragement and comfort to everyone connected to Hope is Education.
For myself and for all members of Hope is Education Korea and Hope is Education Uganda, who now stand at the start of a new challenge after the completion of the KOICA project, this recognition is a profound source of strength.
